I am indian resdnt in US, i want to invest money in India share market - do /will i have to open a dmat acnt?

I'm a new investor in share market....being a resident in US i do not have a PAN card from india.....i want to know what are the options to invest in the indian share market......do i have to open a DMAT account....if not...what are the other options i have......I appreciate all your help and support?
