CC Sabathia and the Cubs?
I heard somewhere that the Cubs would really like to have Sabathia but have not seen anything on it personally. Any truth to this? what would the Cubs have to offer the Indians in exchange, seeing as the season is at its midpoint and Sabathia is still free to leave whatever team he is with at the end of the year. I am an Indians fan and I hope Shapiro pulls the trigger because Sabathia falls apart in the clutch and even if he did not, no way do I see him signing for less money to stay in Cleveland. Any ideas? Comments? Recent rumors involving Sabathia? Sabathia and the Cubs? thanks!

- I saw the rumor, but I doubt it happens. I won't leave it out. I'm sure the Indians would want to, but he would come at an extremely high cost.
- The Cubs have plenty to offer the Indians. Yes, we're pretty quiet on this, but I'm positive we're considering a huge run at him at the deadline. I think all that it'd take to get C.C. is Jason Marquis, Kevin Hart, Sam Fuld, and Eric Patterson. That's a great package for C.C. and the trade is 100% fair for everyone. We might even give up better prospects because we can. Kevin Hart is mostly a long-relief pitcher and the only reason we'd give him up is because we'd get C.C. to eat tons of innings. We'd have an amazing rotation with Big Z, C.C., Dempster, Lilly, and Rich Hill. Marshall and Gallagher would be great long-relief pitchers along with Jon Lieber. Marmol also eats innings, so we'd have dominant pitching in general to go along with out already great offense. I believe getting C.C. would solve all of our problems and with the Cubs being sold, getting someone like C.C. would only make us more valuable. The Cubs would then get lots of money from being sold and we'd have more than enough money to possibly lock-up C.C. long-term. I think this trade could be one of our best ever.
- I'm also an Indians fan. I'm wondering if the Yankees might regret not getting Santana and will put something together involving Hughes and/or Kennedy, plus 1 or 2 other prospects for C.C.
- I haven't heard any rumors, but Sabathia will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year and has already turned down a huge extension from the Indians. If they continue to tank it, he would probably be on the block. I don't know if the Cubs would take him though. Their pitching is pretty solid. Could be a team like the Angels or the Rays if they are still in the mix.
- Well if you guys continue to fall and are completely out of it by Mid-Season, then I'm betting you are going to go through the cubs packed minor league system. I know they have quite a few pitching prospects and some position players as well. The Cubs could use another solid Starter and CC is quite solid. I have heard a lot of this rumor from Steve Stone actually on the local (Chicago) sports radio. You ain't going to get an active player though, I can guarantee that.
- Well, there are a lot of teams (my Yanks included) that would like CC Sabathia, now im almost sure that his contract with the indians is up at the end of this season, so why whould the cubs/yanks trade someone NOW when they can have him for cash only (no players to trade) when he becomes a free agent?
- I wouldn't rule it out,but i put the Yankees and Phillies as the front runners for him.
- I doubt the Cubs would make a move for him, the Cubs have so many starters waiting for the call that I think it would be stupid to bring one more into the mix.
- Technically, nobody can say that the Cubs are officially interested in Sabathia - that would be considering on their part. But, if Sabathia does become available (and that looks more likely the further Cleveland is out of the race) I would hope the Cubs would pull out all of the stops to get him. Do the Cubs need him to win the division/ i don't think they do. But, the playoffs is all about pitching in my book. if you had Zambrano and Sabathia as your 1-2 punch, you would be awfully tough to beat in a 5 or 7 game series. Depending on the schedule, with travel days and such, you could conceivably get 5 starts from them in a 7 game series, and will get at least 4. The ability to pull off that trade, especially if it means giving away young talent to get a pitcher who may not be with you after this season anyway (and no way are the Cubs going to offer him anything until they sell the team) will show a real commitment to winning the World Series, rather then being satisfied with another division championship followed by disappointment. Even if it didn't work out, I would at least be happy that the effort was made to get them over the hump.
- This is not something that is official. It's a rumor that has been talked about on sports radio. Basically they're just talking about if the Indians are out of it then a team like the Cubs who may be looking for a second ace for a playoff push would trade prospects for him. The Cubs have A LOT of talent in their farm system that could get the Indians interested in a trade. Fortunately for the Cubs they already know he's coming to the end of his contract and has already turner down the Indians offer to him of $18 million a year, so they wouldn't have to give up incredibly too much. I do see the Cubs making a push for him as well as the Yankees. I think the Cubs win the bidding war though on account that they have more prospects to offer and Sabathia won't want to head to another team at the bottom of the division.
