Where does the european central bank get its money from?

hi...Ive just read that the european central bank has injected 155billion euros (212 us dollars) into the euro market, what i would like to know is where did they get that money from? Did they just make it up? thankyou Dan

  1. Its reserves, which is made up of the reserves of the central banks of the countries who use th Euro. Retail Banks borrow from the central bank in the country/economic area where they operate. Banks also operate under the central bank and need a license to trade from it, like the federal reserve in the US. The ECB also creates/prints the money.
