  1. 1 billion people
  2. they have a lot of problems, including burning manure for heat in cities making for really appalling living conditions in some cities, they have over 1billion people, they have a government propping up energy suppliers with unsustainable subsidies that are artificially supporting a capital stock that is higher than the unadjusted price of the power, and they create a large amount of pollution by burning coal
  3. India has 4 times the US population but one quarter of its economy. It has had rapid economic expansion in the past twenty years leading to environmental degradation. Keep in mind that 1.2 billion people live in an area the size of the US east of the Mississippi. That's a lot of people for any environment to support.
  4. Economic inequality is a fact in India. There are people living under poverty line. There are billionaires too. This inequality is an in-palpable current which boosts the efficiency of the both. The efficiency and the efforts of the Indians take them to the front. India is a country of vast diversities. This factor is an impetus to the realistic growth of life. Above all, Indian currency is cheaper.
  5. The reason is simply that there very many people living in India. It is certainly the most populous democracy. But in my opinion they are not ranked number one on poorest living conditions. I think it's more accurate to say that regarding how many people there are living in poor conditions. India is partially in transition from an agricultural economy to an industrial one. Industry burns fossil fuels and that is the cause of India's pollution to a great extent.
