Is the VAT tax Conservatives are talking about really an import Tax on Chinese products?

Isn't it about time we stopped sending all our jobs to China and India. How much you want to be the failing Toyota parts were made in China? How much you want to be the disastrous Windows Vista software was completely made by contractors in India? How many children have been murdered by inferior Chinese-made products? (Thousands!) STOP CHEAP DANGEROUS IMPORTS THAT PUT AMERICANS OUT OF WORK NOW!!! ("...bet") I've seen the post of the guy's ANSWER, but not the text of what the QUESTION really was. It may have had nothing to do with "VAT" at all. Typical way Fox TV operates.

NO it is a tax on everything, all goods and services would increase by the tax, food is not excluded either, nor is prescription drugs, every thing sold or manufactured in the US would have an added cost of the tax. Instant inflation! Chinese goods are not high in quality no doubt you get what you pay for. Yet the American worker and the Unions have priced themselves out of work, in my opinion
7. Couple of details a VAT is placed on everything not imported goods they are included but it would not stop dangerous products as you say from coming in.. To stop that you need to look at trade agreements and impose stiff tariffs. Which this administration will not do any more than the Bush one did. my understanding it was the Democrats who proposed a VAT to help pay for HC
8. Here, here! All that is needed to bring a lot of the jobs back is just change some rules. It could be done slowly to ease the transition. It should be done. Look at what we have done to Mexico with NAFTA. VAT is a regressive tax. With VAT the poorest, who can least afford it, get the heaviest tax burden, and the richest gets the lightest. It's backwards. ##
