What unit is used at volume column of Yahoo finance?

First of all, I apologize for my english. I am doing an mathematical academic research and I need to use de Volume traded of a stock. I tooked it from yahoo finance but I'm not sure if it is in pounds (I'm using yahoo.uk, because I need VOD.L data) or if it is in number of shares. Thanks very much!

  1. Volume is ALWAYS in number of shares.
  2. Volume is number of shares for stocks, number of contracts for futures and options, and notional for bonds.
