how safe is nairobi for travellers?

i've just taken up a job in nairobi. i don't know how n what to prepare for my stay there. like am an indian , a pure vegetarian indian . is there an indian community there??? what about money exchange and transfer ??? is it safe out there??? what all things should i keep in mind or beware of during my stay there.pls do lend me some further info . which u think might be helpful foe someone new like me.

1. Nairobi is not such a safe place but it is a main city in Zimbabwe so it might be a bit safe than the others
2. so many indians here in nairobi BUT most of them are really nasty to their workers so dont become like them. Generally, its safe and the indian communities are close and tight knit; so you'll fit in quite ok. We blacks generally dont like you but ur good for our economy so good luck with kenya and all. And Nairobi is in Kenya not Zambia cool or is it thick bayaan.
3. I'm a Kenyan. Nairobi is in Kenya. Honestly, some places in Nairobi are safe other aren't (esp at night). There's a Indian community in Kenya ( there are several temples in Nairobi and even Diwali is celebrated by most indians). I aint Indian so I'd suggest u go to facebook and search for Indians staying in Kenya. They maybe of more help. Email me if u need more help
4. yes there are many Indians in Kenya and i work for one mostly they stay in posh places in Nairobi so don't worry just relax and if you need any assistance i can hook you up with my boss have a nice day
5. congrats on your new job!nairobi is safe but the indians here can be nasty to africans and kenyans but being from india u'll easy fit in with other indians well and the problem is u might take their character. you can hook up with most of them in sarit center westlands or west gate westlands.
6. first of all nairobi is the capital of kenya,not zimbabwe,come on!anyway nairobi is safe i mean there are many expatriates who come to work there and they are well taken care of.There are heaps of indians in kenya..but they tend to segregate themselves from other communities as u may know here in kenya we have approx 52 tribes/cultures.But you should not worry about your safety you will be fine.Enjoy your stay.
