Should America punish itself with Cap and Trade if the biggest offenders, China and India will not change?
Yesterday the EPA and MIT concluded that the Waxman's Cap and Trade bill will no nothing to reduce overall CO2 emissions if only the U.S. enacts such restrictions. And yesterday at the global conference, China and India disagreed with the global warming science concerning CO2. Why should American taxpayers suffer for the "so-called enviro sins" of the rest of the world? Are some here implying that America should pay for the messes in China, India and any other countries with whom we do business? If the EPA, MIT and other reputable scientists and sources agree that Cap and Trade at this level will not have an impact on the environment, this bill is obviously about money. Does that make you feel better? Big corporations will make money off your backs by creating "enviro" friendly ventures that have little impact, but make you feel good about yourself and at the same time your energy bills and cost of living goes up to pay for Cap and Trade policies. Really? jehen, I don't think our kids should pay for our junk science tomorrow that makes us feel good about ourselves today.

- China also sells large quantities of goods and products to American retailers like Wal-Mart at a great big fat profit because their goods and products are made with labor of political prisoners. And women and children paid pennies a day in countries like Guatemala. Do you think we should exploit our population, too? You know, so that we can be like China or Guatemala? Actually, America SHOULD be the leader of the environmental clean-up, since we have been the greatest offenders up to this point.
- The US (historically) have been the biggerst offenders. The US should set the bar by implementing cap and trade with hopes other countries will follow suit.
- We're going to reward China and India by sending them all of our jobs.
- I don't think so.
- No we shouldn't but we will be because it's not about saving the environment it's all about a political agenda. In this case it's a socialist agenda to control you and I.
- China is in the process of adding wind farms to their energy supply. So, that's a start. I also think it's child's logic to say, 'but mommy they need to do it first or i won't do something that's good for me'.
- I don't consider clean air a punishment. Do you?
- If we want to be the leaders of the world, we need to do just that. If we do it, it gives us ground to convince other countries to do it. As more and more fall in line, pressure on China and India will increase. Long story short, you have to start somewhere.
- Cap and Trade has NOTHING to do with the environment but, has everything to do with the administration turning corporate America into a tax collecting mechanism. Trying to evaluate this scientifically is a waste of time.
- Maybe we could not deal with china and india till they change! But that will not work because the greedy bastards on wall street would have no place to outsource jobs to
- I agree china want take notice of Global warming until they have choke off every man ,woman and child in that country with their terrible pollution and deceases.
- Regardless of what other countries do we should not punish ourselves with Cap and Trade. Cap and Trade isn't about saving the world, it's about tax generation to pay for Obamacare - the health plan. Either way, as I've said before, the Earth constantly goes through many temperature changes, up and down. We are on our way to a global cooling and plants NEED CO2 for the process that gives off oxygen, why would we want to stop the creation of oxygen?? Lastly, people give man too much credit for the destruction of Earth and not enough to God or "mother nature" for preserving it.
- I suppose the real reason for Cap N Trade is as a motivator to promote alternative energy and energy conservatism in the workplace and the household, and also for tax revenue. Cap N Trade alone does very little to reduce emissions. People would probably just pay higher bills than worry about which energy efficient lightbulbs to buy.
- Sure! Why not? If we're gonna destroy this country, let's go whole hog at it.
- Moot point. America should reward itself and its future generations by ending dependence on fossil fuels and become energy-self sufficient. Cap and trade is one avenue toward that goal that will also have the effect of reducing carbon emissions and therefore at least slow down climate change and allow a few more generations to enjoy what we have. Does anyone ever notice that all 'conservative' viewpoints in this area are only about themselves today and conserve nothing for the future? If our forefathers were as selfish we would be living in a third world polluted cesspool. Edit: I see. If the facts don't justify your selfishness, simply make up facts that do.
- I find it interesting that the Obama administration is bent upon passing the CAP and TRADE BS. This will drive up energy prices for everyone in the US. It will have little impact upon CO2 emissions. It will cause greater unemployment. Whatever are the Dems thinking? Oh, wait, thinking, do they do that? Give incentives to reduce emissions, but added costs for generating CO2 is NOT the answer. What comes next? Home inspections (weekly or monthly) to see if you have implemented mandated changes? Will fines and penalties be added to our daily costs of living here? And when all the jobs are overseas, will the Dems be happier? Will the unions continue to support them? And what new BS will the environmentalists peddle next? What faulty science or logic will they employ? And what measure of change are they looking for? Who will honestly measure the temps to see if it has really changed? And what if one area goes down while others go up? Do they offset each other? Or who will enforce this lunacy on the rest of the world? Lets deal with it from a pollution standpoint and not this imaginary concept of global warming. The toll booths cause higher concentrations of pollution by stalling traffic. Poorly designed roads stall traffic also. Encourage mass transit usage by improving service, availability, and expanded service - some times of the day have no coverage due to cost considerations. Which is better - less pollution or slightly higher transit revenue but less usage? Stop the insanity Dems, and wake up and smell the changing winds of fortune. Make it more difficult for the US industries to compete and jobs will vanish. Who will you then tax? Jehen, Mashkiki is RIGHT. You have embraced the extremist interpretation of enviromentalists. These fringe thinking fools do not want any pollution. So we do what? Don't breath, it adds CO2 to the environment? Cap and Trade is a bad way (avenue???) of addressing pollution. Enforce existing laws fully! Encourage eco friendly vehicles. Get fossil fuels from our nation to end buying from other nations. Install tighter protections to the environment to keep the additional drilling and transporting of oil and natural gas from polluting. But do not burden the nation with Cap and Trade.
- Junk science at its best rewards politicians with re-election and government officials' friends with giant government contracts. Why do you think it costs 10,000 to put up a windmill now? Used to be, you could build one at home to generate power, for a few hundred. Q:How do you know a politician is lying? A: His lips are moving.
