Will India or China ever overtake the US as a global super power?

India is today one of the rising economies in this world. They are already a economic power and some say that India one day will overtake the US economy. Same thing is with China and Russia. Though there is so much poverty in India they are coming up as a huge global economy. India is known as an IT nation. They recently sent up a space probe that landed on the moon some days back. So many people say that one day countries like China and India will overtake the US as global super powers. So my question is what you think about this? Will China and India be global powers by 20 or 30 years? Will India get a better middle class? I today saw a on both CNN and BBC that this could very much happen by 2020-2025. What do you think? Will US keep it's power or will it slip to another upcoming nation?

  1. China certainly will, but the Americans won't be happy about this.
  2. I don't think so but the chinese are very smart and might but the US is huge
  3. Only Future will tell.
  4. china will achieve this
  5. By 2050, the US will be somewhere between the 6th and 10th strongest economy in the world. It's oil consumption will be it's most pressing financial constraint. Civil strife will be common throughout the country and racial disharmony will threaten any chance of stability the country has. Europe will have consolidated its position as the worlds third largest economy and will benefit from the political stability brought about by the alienation of radicalism. The growing distrust of right wing politics will have moved Britain away from American alignment and strengthened it's ties with Europe. American influence will not be removed from the world stage... rather, America will remove itself. The financial cost will become increasingly unpopular with the American people and the political doves will find unprecedented support among the mid-western traditional republican 'hawk' voters. Essentially, history will show that American leaders had to come to terms with learning the difference between power and influence. Power is dependent on direction. Influence isn't.
  6. If we don't fix our huge 9? trillion dollar deficit and our bad monetary policies then yes they will be a stronger economy then the US.
  7. Look a look at the current condition of the U.S. economy. Consider our national debt, the wholesale departure of U.S. industrial jobs to countries like China and you tell me. We drove the Russians into virtual bankruptcy through the arms race. Maybe it's our turn now.
  8. As much as I believe China and India will grow quicker to become a more mature economy I do not think they will overtake the US for several reasons. Firstly the reason the likes of china and India have done so well is because they have abundance of labour and land giving them absolute advantage over the US leading to many companies outsourcing etc. But as China and india become richer the workers will demand higher pay so no longer will China be the cheap good exporter, for example Indians no longer look at the contact centre as the big thing anymore and are going into other industries because of the shortage of supply in other industries leading to increases in wage... also look at china, why do you think china is using a fiscal stimulus package to boost their economy and the world economy, because they need america to buy their goods and europe... and so they will never become richer than the countries they sell their goods too but they might become similar...
  9. very possibly by the mid 21st century china will, especially if the yanks continue to outsource all their key manufacturing
  10. Looking at the current rates of growth of those countries and their larger populations, they are set to surpass us soon enough. By the way a combined Europe is larger than the United States in terms of population and economic power.
  11. China's got a billion people that includes a large and growing percentage of well-educated, highly skilled workers. It's an already gargantuan but still rapidly growing economy and a government that's perfectly at home keeping wages down while providing minimal services to its citizens. It's comfy with devastating it's own environment, not to mention the rest of the planet's, in order to maximize profits. And it's not averse to making deals with any bad-guy governments around the world that might have some resources (gold, oil, uranium, etc.) that it happens to need. Due to a combination of its sheer size, raw ambition (reminiscent of our own at the beginning of the 20th century) and general ruthlessness (also reminiscent of our own), the 21st century will belong to China in much the same way that the 20th century belonged to America.
  12. Both countries are still at a developing state. They need to attain develop status before they can compete.
  13. ***Smelly*** has the right idea and answer! I must add... NO matter what the US will always, always have the upper hand. US is a trend setting, economic leader etc... other countries are always either looking for help from us in the US or are looking for our way of living. You can see it all over the world what a great influence the US has on other countries. It seems they want to be like us, this has been for a Long time and always will be. I would be surprised if this ever changes!
  14. It depends on so many factors though doesn't it? You've got to ask yourself how the USA will get over it's massive oil consumption problems. Will there be any wars? Will technology save the day for the USA? On the other hand, the USA, India and China are consuming everything they can and are feeding off the Earth's resources like vultures. How long can the Earth sustain that? The world is so unstable right now, there are wars sparking off, natural disasters can play a large part too. You've also got to ask yourself - is it right that China and India have a SPACE program, when so many millions of their own people live in utter poverty? Super power? It's just a frame of mind. And if China and India are to be such super powers, how come my country (the UK) sends £ billions in aid to them every year? So, who is the real super power? It's going to be the one who still stands when the rest of the world has blown up. Perhaps a country that conserves it's resources rather than one that gobbles them up.
  15. They say China will overtake the US in terms of GDP by 2020.
  16. In 2009, China will account for 17 pct of manufacturing value-added output of 11,783 bln usd and the US will account for 16 pct, according to the estimates. Just last year, the US was the clear leader with about 20 pct of the total, compared with China 's 13.2 pct,
