Where are all the jobs in America?

Mostly looking for comments as to what people think as far as how true this little story is: Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his robe (Made in PAKISTAN) Slippers (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), Then his DVD Player (Made in CHINA), Took out a movie (Made in JAPAN), made some microwave (Made in THAILAND) popcorn (Made in TAIWAN) and then wondered why he and everyone else can't find any jobs in.....AMERICA

  1. Big corporations have been taxed and restricted to much that they've had to go overseas to make a profit.
  2. You forgot about his mail order bride from Russia lol
  3. This is GREAT! My company went under in March. I am well educated and have PLENTY of training in my field yet I can't even downgrade and get a job answering phones because someone from another country will do it for minimum wage.
  4. I think of supply and demand. The better quality for the least cost is certainly attractive.
  5. Where are all the jobs in America? End result of the Reagan Revolution, war on middle class started 30 years ago. We are still winning the Republican race to the bottom.
  6. This is a problem. It's not the current problem with a lack of jobs. Service jobs are evaporating now, along with manufacturing all over the world due to the economic downturn. Every single country you mentioned is also loosing jobs right now. However, in general, yes. Free trade agreements must have clauses that enforce labor and environmental regulations, creating similar standards around the world and therefore a level playing field. If you want to sell to the bulk of the world, you should have to have all the expensive aspects that make life better in your nation and allow other nations to compete with your costs. Emerging economies often look at their GDP and ignore their workers and environment, enabling them to out-compete other nations. If you fix that, the playing field largely levels. You could also have tariffs designed to make up for the average wage differences, but that's more complex and has more negative consequences. Obama campaigned on this issue. It's why he has voted for some free trade agreements on not others. He voted for the ones with these sorts of provisions and against the ones without them.
  7. Up Bush-n- Cheneys booties. When will those criminals answer questions about 911 under oath?
  8. I see a lot of dummy's try and answer this question. They must still live with mom and dad. Tax's to death. You will see more move very soon. Can't blame them. The sheep will be here blaming someone Else for there own leaders.
  9. Jobs are being outsource by the minute. Our government has sold us out to other countries
  10. lets look at this from an investers point of view someone works hard for thier money and saves it up and then builds a business, hires employees and sells a product,, most small business will be lucky if they make 20c on the dollar after labor and taxes.. now congress desides min wage goes up or labor union wants more of the company's profits and they end up with 15c on the buck then ofcourse all the local, state and fed government want to increase thier take of the profits.. so it drops down to 10c or less.. so the only way to make a decent profit is to expand and sell in volume but if you do that.. then people think you are rich so you are taxed more then you see you other businesses prospering from packing up and moving to another country that has people begging for work and you do the math and its cheaper to pack up and move then pay the union labor rates and over taxation just to stay here news flash.. i knew obama was gonna win back when mccain was picked over the rest of those running on the right... and so did a good share of my customer base, which is why about 3 months ago most of em started laying off people and getting ready to move out of the country to stay ahead of bankruptcy, sure hope im wrong about this but i predict around summer of next year after obama jacks up taxes that unemployment hits double digits and then he goes after the middle class that he promissed a tax cut to just to keep up his social programs
  11. The jobs are in countries that are more business-friendly. Scifnutt is correct. The company that I worked for saw the writing on the wall. Business was down (due to Freddie and Fannie) and they looked at the possibility of having their taxes raised again locally as well as federally. About three months ago they started laying off people to prepare. They shut the doors a few days before the election. They could have chosen to stuck it out, but why? The small company that mu husband works for is struggling due to the economy. They laid off one person. Everyone knows that if they have any more tax increases, another person will need to go. They've already cut everywhere they could. Of course the owner could decide to simply shut the doors. He's old enough to retire anyway and he's not required to have a business or provide a job to anyone. That's his choice.
