Where are the American jobs going?
Mostly looking for comments as to what people think as far as how true this little story is: Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his robe (Made in PAKISTAN) Slippers (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), Then his DVD Player (Made in CHINA), Took out a movie (Made in JAPAN), made some microwave (Made in THAILAND) popcorn (Made in TAIWAN) and then wondered why he and everyone else can't find any jobs in.....AMERICA

- His tennis shoes were actually made in Viet Nam where the shoe factories have moved since China now cost too much. The production of consumer goods may or may not be the future, but the real future is in intellectual properties. So the answer to jobs is education.
- Yea but our guns and bombs are made here.
- Thats just one of the many things that GW Bush has done to downgrade America during the last 8 years. We need to get back on track, and bring these jobs back home. In the end we may have to use jeeps, tanks, machine guns, bombs and jets as an example of what we make well here.
- Fantastic! I have been talking about this for years, but no one hears me. We as a nation have allowed all or most all manufacturing jobs to leave the country. I blame the American people for letting this happen. I go out of my way to buy American whenever I can, and it's becoming increasingly more difficult. I only buy cars manufactured by American car companies, and I don't mean Honda, and Toyota, because their corporate offices are in an other country. I saw a sign recently that read, " if your hungry, eat your foreign car". I have been boycotting Wal-Mart for years, because I must be the only one that read Sam Walton's biography, where he said "he would sell the American people, American made products at the cheapest possible prices". Wal-Mart was one of the first retailers to bring in foreign products, simply because they were cheaper. They were also the first to bring in inferior products from China. You remember China, lead paint on kids toys, poison dog food, and tainted vitamins. Thank you Wal-Mart for bring in to my country, all these harmful products, and driving American business' out of business. I recently e-mailed K-Marts corporate offices, and told them I would not be back in their stores, until all the signs in the store were in English only, which incase no one remembers is the language of my country. They never respoded to me. I would call them, but I don't think I should have to press one for english. If you can't learn the language of the land, stay at the border until you do, and don't come sneaking in. People have to realize that when they allow all these jobs to be sent over seas, there will be nothing here for them to do, except to go online and speak to Ms/Mr Patel to find out what is wrong with their computer.
- Well you forgot, You woke up laying in your bed ( america ),your mattress was quite comfortable ( america ), As you walked to the bathroom on your carpet ( america ) and did your business in the comode ( america ), shaved in your sink ( america ) then took a shower in your tub ( america ) Then went back to your bedroom and went thru your bedroom furniture ( america ) getting your clothes out. Went down stairs and opend up the refrigeator ( america ), to cook your breakfast on your stove ( america ), You put in a load of laundry in your washing machine ( america ) and took some laundry out of your dryer ( america ). Went and ate breakfast on your dining room table ( america ), Then went into the living room and sat down on your couch ( america ) Have you noticed a difference yet ? Every product you named from overseas, were all the cheap products, that cost less than $30.00 . The german car excepted, although it could have been made in South Carolina ( BMW ) or Alabama ( Mercedes ). Then look at the cost of the products made in america. Did you notice, they all cost serious money. America doesn't need minimum wage jobs, like textile ( clothing, or cheap consumer electronics ( microwaves, coffe pots, elec razors ) America needs jobs that produce products , that cost enough, that they can pay good wages.
