Why can't we manufacture our own brand of cars in the Philippines?

If the Koreans can do it, and now the India government done it why can't we Filipinos make a car of our own? We cannot compare ourselves with the Japanese. It is like comparing a 10 year old boy(Filipinos) sucking a lollipop with a college student(Japanese). Let us concentrate on Korea alone. Before and after the start of World War2 they were enslaved by the Japanese Imperial government. After the war they bowed never to buy Japanese products including Japanese cars. And through the years they developed their own concept of making their own brand of cars that we see today(Hyundai/Daewoo/Kia etc). If you believe we Filipinos are smart enough compared to the Koreans why can't we make a car of our own? And for me I will name it -FILIPINO, why not? What do you think? Can we do it? No not 50 years from now but NOW NA. I want to see the negative response of all people here, knowing Filipinos they got plenty of negative answers than positive ones. Do you think we can do it? If some of you say we have one then where is it? It must be mass produce so that most Filipinos can afford to buy this car made in the Philippines. Imagine India manufactured the cheapest car in the world probably $1,000 only. I have read that in one column. Which comes to mind why in the heck we Filipinos cannot built something that can last forever? What's wrong with us? I think the only thing we are good at is giving criticism to one another, throw mud or dirty things to one another. That is what we Filipinos are good at. Example is this Big Mouth, telling me I only good in ngawa then ask a good question coming from own then, the only question you asked then is cheating ok isn't it? You should have asked a child of 6 years old if cheating is good or not she or he can provide you the honest answer. Because a child never lie. Filipinos are jealous type, mapang-api, mapanibugho, mapanira ng kapwa....matanglawit. Let me guess...this idea of mine just like the previous ones is again not feasible. But let thy answers be heard for all of us to see. I should had been born in another time and place most probably. Maybe in France. Kasi parang concept ng idea ko some says comes from a comic books. As if you people do not see what I see or think what I think. I'm not taking drugs. Probably I am just a visionary, I do not like my country the Philippines to be like this only do you? It is raining outside, aren't we?(joke)

  1. Yes, u are absolutely right
  2. Hmm, you might want to consider exporting Jeepneys to New York. Taxis are way too expensive there.
  3. ^^ I WANT TO SEE THE NEGATIVE RESPONSE OF ALL PEOPLE HERE, KNOWING FILIPINOS THEY GOT PLENTY OF NEGATIVE ANSWERS THAN POSITIVE ONES. ^^ THINK POSITIVE MR. DELIVE_RANCE !!! WHAT NEGATIVE RESPONSE ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT !!! I TOTALLY SUPPORT YOUR IDEAS !!!
  4. You "could" manufacture your own cars, you have the skills and the market (if the price is right). But, who would invest in The Philippines with so much corruption there? Someone needs to put the money up and car factories cost a lot of money. That money would have to come from overseas and as The Philippines is one of the most corrupt countries on earth I don't think you'll get many people willing to risk their money.
  5. Yes it's possible, but the initiative should come from the private sector. Perhaps one or more biz tycoons can venture out and build the first Filipino branded car.
  6. The Filipinos are not building local cars not because they are technically incapable. It is just like a baker molding a cake. This is business my friend. Will the investor profit from it?
  7. hmmm...haven't you heard that there's these cars made of toothpicks, bamboos and tin cans? YES indeed!, they are not myths!, they are real! but sadly...it is not quite popular enough....the status of its credibility is still in its embryonic stage
  8. Honestly, will you buy a Philippine-made car ? We Pinoys like something imported.
  9. In case you forgot, we do produce our own vehicles in the Philippines. Only they do not pass world class standards for it to be exported AND if ever, the owners are not supported by our government in terms of funding, tax incentives, and international exposure. Our passenger jeepneys from Francisco Motors and Sarao are some examples. Then we have body fabricators for owner jeepneys and FX lookalikes. I do understand that they pale in comparison from other imported vehicles BUT these are homegrown ingenuity if I may say so. Unfortunately, these companies were not able to expand and hone their vehicles for the lack of available funding. Please note that R & D takes the biggest funding. Sadly, it boils down again to government intervention. While it is true that Filipinos HAVE the capacity for international excellence, this talent has to be cultivated and nurtured in an atmosphere conducive for its proper growth. That is reality. Side note. Ed San Juan, an engineering graduate of Mapua Institute of Technology (Go Cardinals!) was credited with the invention of the Moon Buggy for Apollo 12. His overall concept and design of the Articulated Wheel System was considered brilliant. (So if we can be credited for building a vehicle that can navigate the moon, I am sure we can build one for the streets of the world.) So YES WE CAN!
  10. there already were carbon fiber cars being built on Clark until corruption and greed forced the company to abandon its philippine operations and move out of the country. so the simple answer is the reason the philippines cant make its own cars is because corruption makes it cheaper to build them elsewhere.
  11. isn't anyone else bored of these futile questions? (If someone knew how to dodge these loopholes, then they would have done so by now) By the way, you sound frustrated over nothing. Suggest spending less time venting on Yahoo Answers
  12. Why are some people obsessed with cars with a label "Made in the Philippines"? We can quite simply mass produce labels and stick them up on Jaguars, Lotuses, BMWs and so on and so forth. Why ramble about Paris? Is it because of Lovers in Paris, and my twin brother Piolo being obsessed with E-jeepneys? Why accuse Pinoys of being "mapang-api, mapanibugho, mapanira ng kapwa", and above all, "matanglawit", when my eyes are simply not yet in its dropping stage? And yet .... and yet .... you could be quite right. With this fever I have been hosting for over a week now, there is a good chance my eyes would just drop off the floor any moment now! Don't anybody move! I dropped my eyes !!!
  13. WE STILL PREFER THE WATER BUFFALO AS OUR MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION SO THERE IS NO NEED TO BUILD OUR OWN CARS HERE.
  14. dude wake up! we are already manufacturing...jeepneys and tricycles lol
  15. first, we must realize that there is a potential buyer before we make any product. And knowing the colonial mentality of pinoys, many would prefer to buy foreign produce product even if it is more expensive being aware that many of the locally produce items are inferior and not worth the money spend on. So , if the locals don't patronize something, why would the other nation patronize this things. Another is politics.Whenever there is a business that is booming here in the Philippines, those in power would make all kinds of evil plans just to have the ownership of a booming company go to their names.Surely, investors would therefore be discouraged to do business here. The state is supposed to protect the citizens but it instead take advantage those who have no high political or military connection.
  16. Spotter gave you a great answer already. And pero gave a good reason. But what I haven't heard of yet is that it was the SAKBAYAN, back in day in the 60s or the 70s I believe, was the Philippines' first car. I know it wasn't much but we have done it. I know people malign the Filipino ever since we can remember, because we have become like the tallest/richest kid in the first grade who ended up the shortest & sorriest by high school & college. But back in the day we were way ahead of these countries who have passed us by today. Now, here is the big question that we should ask first, are all Filipinos now ready to purchase only LOCAL MADE products like what most of these other countries have done, where the nationals/locals really have a tremendous love for their county's welfare & who have made it happen for them? If we are, then everything is possible as inherently we are no lesser than them in terms of skills, talents, ingenuity, etc. etc. But since most Filipinos still have their "mental colony" collonialism thinking & most people are "talangkas" or some who only think of themselves & not of others, then it's still a no go.
  17. Of course we could! Don't let the naysayers, the critics, and mudslingers discourage you. This is a brilliant idea, second only in magnitude to your proposed submarine! In fact the vehicles we produce should be amphibious to allow for river transports and inter-island trips, and more importantly, so that they could navigate through the flooded streets of the country. I already see a potential global market, e.g. Manila, Venice, New Orleans. And why stop there - make them submersibles too, so as to avoid typhoons (your original idea), seasickness, and pirates in the open seas. A visionary like you would definitely love this idea of car-boat-submarine! Oh wait a minute, what if we attach wings...
  18. Philippines should be making an electric alternative to the motorbike - tricycle. I read a story about a town that was going to make a bamboo car. This makes a lot of sense actually, Fiberglass and composite boats and planes use fiberglass as a base on which super strong resin adheres. Bamboo has the same quality, you can weave a car or electric trike from bamboo then coat it in a resin that will make it very strong, light weight and durable. a lighter car or trike uses less energy. an electric trike only uses a few pesos of electricity operating all day.. most important it does not create pollution. think electric.
