Will the exchange rate from pounds to dollars improve before summer 2009, or is it destined to get worse?
I'm planning a trip from UK to the US in september. Would it be worth getting my dollars and paying for as much as possible now or is the exchange rate likely to improve before then? I went to US last year and the rate was about 1.9:1 and now its only 1.4:1 meaning everything is so much more expensive this time around!

- I think it will stay at 1.4 for over a year. The rate was stable around 1.4 for a long time, but ramped up and peaked at 2 while the economy was running wild over the last few years. The economy is going to be stuck in the doldrums for a year, so I think 1.4 is here for a while.
- unlikely. The UK economy is in turmoil at the moment, with figures today showing unemployment has jumped by the highest margin since records began. Data like this, combined with the quantitative easing measures happing now, along with the IMF prediction that the UK will be the only economy still in recession in 2010 leads me to believe rates will continue to drop.
