Should Central banks require commercial banks to report to them on a monthly basis on non-performing loans?

During periods of economic and financial slow downs, in Malaysia in 1980's, our country's central bank, known as Bank Negara Malaysia, requires commercial banks to compiled a report on non-performing loans for three months and more, so that it can formulate monetary and fisical policies to assist and advise banks on their loans problems.
