1. Go to the nearest CAMS office - they are the registrars for most mutual funds and stock the enrolment forms. Fill them up and deposit them directly with CAMS. There are no entry loads for any mutual funds if you deposit the forms with cheque directly (i.e. not through an agent or broker). CAMS has an office in Rayala Towers in Anna Salai. (You can also go to the offices of individual funds and deposit your applications.) Visit valueresearchonline.com for their 5 star and 4 star rated funds in different categoried. Choose ELSS funds from there based on your investment style and risk tolerance.
2. Arun you can walk into any mutual fund house office and ask them for opening MF's without entry load. as per the SEBI directive, if a customer walks into a mutual fund house's office directly to make the investment they must not charge you the entry load. Of course if you go to HDFC bank to invest in HDFC MF they would charge you entry load because thats not the MF office. check out the net for the offices of the mutual fund houses in chennai and visit them. Reg. the best tax saving MF's Sundaram BNP Paribas is very good. also SBI magnum has been an awesome performer over the past few years.
