How will USA cope up with India, China in 21st century regarding economy and superpower status?
India is growing at 9%. China is growing at 11-12 %. The USA was growing at an average rate of just 3-4% EVEN BEFORE THE RECESSION STRUCK. With this rate of growth, USA would soon be dwarfed by eastern giants. It seems like the country cannot keep up the momentum as it did in the past. After the great depression, US and its economy roared and soared to great heights. But do u think it will happen after the current recession? Are the days of great AAmerica over? I hear here people saying that only east is going to lead the world forever and western days are over.. Your view plz?

- China will eventually go to war with India (who will also fight Pakistan) and America will retain the top spot. But seriously, I wouldn't write America's obituary if I were you. People have been doing that for more than 200 years.
- 9% - 12% growth is unsustainable, over the long term. The US has had growth rates just as high, or higher in the past, before settling down to something more manageable. All it means is that India and China are catching up and ready to join the world economy as equals. I think that's a good thing, personally.
- This is to be the Chinese/Indo Century. The USA will still be in play but China will be the foremost power and India can follow if they cast off the Hindu sanghs trying to tear apart the secular nation. China and India have enjoyed good trade relations this past decade so war is unlikely. Instead, Pakistan may be caught between China and India. The growth rates of both nations have slowed considerably. Both are under 7%, probably closer to 5%.
- usa will cede power.. as the less corrupt.. more efficient forms of govt leave us in the dust.. mabye they will buy our nuclear weapons from us.. to dispose of them safely.. instead of letting them get into the bush/neocon hands of the people who corrupted and destroyed america from within. when china and india are run on free renewable energy.. wind farms.. and have to pay no "fossile fuel" costs..they will rocket ahead of the greedy stone age americans.. americans should be pissed.. they let greed drive our govt.. corporations stole our country. bought our media and politicians.. and crapped on us for profit.
- I'm not worried. The economies of the 3 countries you mentioned are too closely tied together. If the U.S lags behind substantially, China will also lag behind, and to a lesser extent, so will India. I mean, what will China do without American goods to plagiarize or make in sweatshops? Japan's status on the other hand, I imagine will probably soar regardless.
- It means the US will very soon no longer be the "Worlds only superpower". That is a good thing! India certainly will be a economic power but I do not see them rising as a military power, both China and Russia are military powers in their own right but in far better financial condition than the US. The US will see it's economic power continue to decline until it addresses the core issues behind it's economic woes. If it does not it will become the another Great Britain resting on its laurels but not really an empire anymore. I do anticipate China, and Russia will become superpowers and if the US can turn itself around could act as a bit of a counterbalance If not, although they have collaborated on some things, I think there is enough difference between the two to where they will counter balance each other.
- If a global war don't break up for occupying decreasing water or petroleum or any other reason, USA will try to make a balanced relationship with China & India. US will try to keep both countries engaged with each other, & retain its supremacy. US is a very organised country. They are much ahead in science, construction etc. There are some drawbacks in both China & India, which may hinder their aspiration of being global superpowers. In both the countries, the benefit of economic growth is concentrated among handful of ppl. The large 'deceived' ppl will give both countries much pain in future. China is super-aggressive, India is super-defensive -- both not fit for being superpowers in now-a-days(military power ? you can't dominate the world making most of the countries angry. Learn it from the sufferings of US ). Both countries have high corruption. Finally, the western countries won't like the idea of emergence of a superpower from their old colonies of the east. At this point they will be united against China/India.
- Fine, we'll see how they like having the rest of the world breathing down their necks and blaming them for everything for a change.
- We (Americans) will deal with it the same as we dealt with Japan in the 1980's. People 25 years ago were all taking about Japan and how they would take over and now look at them.
- Not likely, keep in mind who the largest consumers are, the USA. That said, China and India are in a recession of there own. As for why there Economy is growing faster then ours, well its called JOBS, if you do not produce nothing you can not advance in nothing. Why are jobs leaving the USA, cost of running. Think about it if you could higher ten people compared to one US citizen and not have to pay taxes on any of the profit they earn you, you would. The Jobs don't belong to us, they belong to the companies. Why hasn't the shipment of Jobs hurt us since the introduction of NAFTA, America spirit and ingenuity. What is needed to help our economy grow is the fair tax, in which you solely tax the a person consumption of goods and services (like a sales tax) this would force the government to have a vested interest in the health of the economy. Not only the Fair tax, but we the people would have the sole power to increase the tax government is allowed to charge for the consumption of goods and services. Yes sounds crazy but businesses would come back to the USA, no other place can you find a better bunch of workers, we lead in innovation and production when given a finical bonus to do so.
- ur Q shld've been asked the other way round. how will Ind and Chn catch up with USA and try to be superpowers. everyone is behind the USA, and no one gives up top spot easily. americans are paranoid by nature, and are already planning on how to stop Ind and Chn. they have a lead in so many areas that no-one will able to catch up unless they fight head on with US and win (very unlikely). US will still be superpower till 2030 at least and will continue to play a big role in world affairs till 22nd century. there's no sidelining it. Ind and Chn declined due to colonization, so only way to stop US is to colonize it...a fantasy idea. its Ok if the world has a balanced power regime with US and Chn. i wouldn't want Chn to be sole superpower! we need US to keep democracy going (in whatever form). so US is a sort of perpetual power. Ind will never be a superpower- too many probs and it has pakistan to deal with. how can u manage the world when u can't even deal with ur neighbor effectively?
