China's One child policy: what's a good research angle?

I am planning on writing a research essay on China's one child policy and I am curious if you guys have some interesting and specific questions/opinions about this controversial policy. Few I could come up with are: The social impact on Chinese females, the long term vs. the short term impacts, the implementation of similar policies in other countries in the future (especially India), it's impact on abortions and cultural values, or even it's impact on the international economy. Feel free to inject opinions along with your questions. (btw... I am not looking for questions like "was the one child policy good?")

1. How about the impact of not having the 1 child policy. Would the country turn out to be filled with poor starving families the same as in parts of overpopulated areas or Africa.
2. What about it's impact on family? Children growing up with no siblings, aunts or uncles or cousins. Or what about impact on families who do not abide by the policy? Many don't.
