Why is India despite having brilliant young english speaking people, lagging behing China in development?
What does China have that India lags? Even considering GDP , GDP growth rate, China is more advanced than India..Why? How can India race ahead of Chinese economy?

- the reason best advocated is CORRUPTION and the age factor ... look at the age of our leaders......and their education level. Compare that to CHINA. Resolution for me is not only the Education for all but also the EDUCATION FOR ALL POLITICIANS. Politics should be declared as a Career wherein to be at some level there should be some educational requirement as well as professional experience.
- because u think that english will take u forward
- China has a lot of investors trying to take advantage of the plentiful low wage labor pool and the huge consumer market. I agree that the same conditions exist in India that exist in China, and there is no reason that India should not be experiencing the same level of economic growth. Transportation infrastructure is comparable, shipping and receiving of raw materials and produced goods would not be a problem. I also agree with the answer above citing corruption and education as factors. Corruption can significantly increase the cost of doing business. India does have a good reputation for being technology and business savvy. The key is figuring out how to make those strengths work in your favor.
- Because in China corruption is punishable by death. In India it's considered a traditional way of life. Which culture is more apt to attract investment? That's not to mean corruption doesn't exist in China but it's state controlled. Deeper thought if you know the two countries. In China people work for their rice bowl. In India people work for peanuts.
- How naive and simplistic of you to think that mere proficiency in the English language would be enough for a country's advancement and development! There are so many other factors that have contributed to the growth of China. In India so long as people are more conscious of their rights than their duties, there is no hope for any progress. Corruption in all walks of life, illiteracy and the burgeoning population are some of the reasons for our lagging behind abysmally. No one wants to work.Everyone expects only a sinecure and wants to lead a life of leisure and pursuit of mundane pleasures. With such an attitude ingrained in the majority,do you seriously believe that India can move ahead of China in any field? The race,if any, would be lost before it starts.
- Speaking english does not make us worthy for development. In europe, except for britan and ireland, no other country speaks english. Still some of european countries are richer (per capita income) than USA. We are not only behind china but to most of the countries in the world. It is because we are not united against our in-efficient govt, we are not organized, we are divided in our aim to get better govt.
- English speaking or knowledge of English has nothing to do with development. Indian growth is one of the highest after China. China is not having democracy and moreover only one language for communication. Lack of democracy, for which Chinese people have more or less accustomed for over 70 years, have made them workaholicks. Whereas we are one of the biggest functioning democracy and a young nation that has to adjust and accommodate to various pulls and pushes. A consistent GDP of over 9% for the past years speaks well of Indian economy and the urgent steps and immediate action as soon as the Industrial growth slowed down was amazing. Our GDP is far far better than US(0.5%), Japan(;5%), UK(1%?). Only Brazil is following India closesly. Therefore, we are progressing well and in the right direction. Not for nothing India and Brazil are demanding for permanent seat in the UNSC. They are future economic powers. Already a number of expats are coming to India seeking employment. The recent study has shown that Indian going abroad seeking employment is showing diminishing signs. A number of IIM grads. prefer India to other countries for employment.
- There aint much made in India, is there?
- Do you think english speaking is the only criteria for development ? Yes India is lagging far behind China. China got independencd in 1950, while India in 1947. China's development is a result of the revolution and its planned development process is engineered by a strong communist party and socialist ideology, while India's independent was a result of transfer of powers only.
- because india is a democracy
