How much indian money required to spend to take admission in usa for "MS computer science" study? ?

Public Comments

  1. maybe about 10 lakhs, which is approx 25000 us dollars?
  2. Tuition alone for a postgraduate program is going to you on average, $30,000 per year, which is about 1,375,000 rupees per year. Multiply that by two, the average number of years it takes to complete and that is 2,750,000 rupees for the two years. This does not include living expenses such as rent, utilities, medical insurance, textbooks, transportation, food etc.
  3. it depends on many factors. the fee in universities doesnt vary much but the living cost can be reduced. you can find the tution fees on the respective university website. you have to add up all the costs that are listed there for books etc. and them estimate will be clear. if you are able to find a cheap accomodation, you can geatly reduce the total cost . i think it will come etween Rs. 8 lac to Rs. 15 lac. depending on different cities and universities.
  4. tution will be different from school to school. Plus if you are not a resident in that specific state in the USA, you will be charged out of state/international rates which are higher than the in state rates. So you will need to look at both. usually graduate studies in computer science will require around $600 - 800 per credit. So depending on the credits and units required by each school the amount you need will differ. If you study full time, a MS is obtainable in about 1.5 - 2 years in the USA. And I beleive you need about 10 - 12 courses to finish and each course carries around 3- 4 credits. so roughly around 40 - 50 credits. You should also not forget the fees potion. Apart from tution most schools will charge you fees and then you should also budget in the room and board, books and other misc spending. This will once again differ from state to state and from city to city. For example New york will be more expensive with higher apartment rates (about 1000 - 1500 per month) while some rural area will be lesser (300 - 400 per month). Take all these into consideration when you budget. There are some on campus jobs that might be available but its not guaranteed you will get them as soon as you come on campus, so don't count on it. You can only work 20 hours per week for mimum wage which once again depends from state to state. But in average its between 6 - 8 dollars. But don't forget the 16% tax they take out on what you earn if you are an international student. So I'd say that you might need to budget about US $ 30000 - 40000 per year (indian rupees 1400000 - 200000) depending on where you apply in the USA. IMPORTANT --- I'd contact many schools as possible to see if they can provide some financial support. There are some schools who will offer some sort of financing if you have good academic transcripts and a good GRE score.
