do you feel bad about cheap clothes made abroad in places like india in sweatshops?
if we boycott, then the workers won't have jobs and money to feed their family. but if we buy them, then we're supporting the current system they're in. and the clothes aren't actually that cheap. if you pay £10 for a t-shirt, that should be a decent wage but obviously the middleman is consuming most of the money. are fairtrade products just the same but because the price is higher, the middleman can afford to give a bit more to the worker, but the middleman is still consuming most of the price. your thoughts please!!!!

- I boycott Nike and all them, but then a friend told me that I'm just keeping money from the people who work there... I think the only way a boycott would still work is if EVERYONE actually stopped buying their products. Which will probably not happen any time soon!!
- yes, i do feel awful about it. but someone made an interesting point once. that while it is appalling the low wages workers get paid, those wages are often exponentially higher than what many would be making if they stayed in their home villages and became farmers. so while i think that it is awful, and something should be done, i don't just think reform should be kept to the sweatshops. if we *truly* want to change things, we need to help the whole country, not just those poor souls slaving in a sweatshop for 10 cents an hour.
- i think that there should be some rules that affect the world economy. it should regulate circumstances like that. people within that country can make things better with strength in numbers. H&M is based in england i think, if people that purchased their clothes protested they would have to change their policies cause at the end the all mighty dollar is the one who rules. to get corporations to work u have to get them where it hurts them. their $$$$ profit. also the UN should try to at least fix this or set some rules out. this is a small step but at least a step then the consumers should be educated then things can change. for instance look at PETA it gives a list of cruelty-free and a lot of people follow it, like me. it should start there and things can get better.
