India..Car costing £1499.00? HOW?

has anyone heard of this car they've made in India that only costs £1499.00? My stepdad told me he had seen it on Teletext this morning..Makes you wonder doesnt it? If they can do it, WHY THE HELL CANT WE?? Apparently it doesnt have electric windows etc., its just a basic car, but who gives a damn if its like that? I could certainly use a car for that price, without all the mod cons...with all the ipods, mp3 etc for music; and the hands for winding down the windows; etc... All sounds pretty damned good to me... What do you think? Would you buy one? Cos apparently, they ARE on the way here... yes i DO mean fourteen HUNDRED and ninety nine pounds

Well that what cars are for, to get from A to B. Good for a town runaround but wouldn`t want to do loads of motorway miles in one. Like the old Citroen CV which had wicker seats, functional but not very comfy.
Plenty of cheap labour in India and if they ever come to Britain our greedy tax man will add another few grand tax on top of that
Yeah I would buy one. I've seen a video of the car in question and it's called a Tata. It's got a 650cc engine and doesn't look too bad. Great for running around town, very economical and keeps the rain out (hopefully). Not the sort of car I would use on a motorway or a long journey though.
I read that too. But our government will will tax them 50% then make them conform with CO2 output etc. A shame, really.
yes a Tata not a nice car 2 cylinder 600cc if it is as good as the rest of the vehicles they produce it is doomed to failure

THAT IS THE DEALER PRICE IN INDIA BY THE TIME IT GETS TO THE UK I EXPECT THE PRICE TO ABOUT £4000 WONT SEEM SO MUCH A BIG DEAL THEN WILL IT IMPORT TAX, VAT, SHIPPING, DEALER MARK UP,NEW CAR TAX, to graham n we were both spot on on with 4 grand estimate just to give some idea you know the 50cc motor bikes that were prevalent over the last couple of years I could buy them in China for £17.32 in quantity. by the time shipping import duty and customs Clearance had been added plus VAT the actual cost per unit was a little over £100 so dont expect miracles

Yes I heard about it.The TATA company is one of the biggest in the world and they are in the process of buying Jaguar and Landrover from Ford and going to continue the production in UK.
the car in question is built by tata they are also in negotiations to buy range rover group
