How many Central Banks are incorporated in the Central European Bank?

1. In January 1999, the responsibility for monetary policy was transferred from the national central banks of 11 European Union member states to the European Central Bank. Since then, four additional national banks transferred their responsibilities for monetary policy. The national banks still exist, however, and have not been incorporated into the ECB.
